Kgabang Sekhabi (born 27 July 2000), popularly known as Shalate Sekhabi, is a South African actress and model.

She is best known for the roles in the television soap opera as, The River, and House of Zwide.

Early life of Shalate Sekhabi

Sekhabi was born on the 27th of July in 2000 in Mafikeng in the North West Province of South Africa. Si, as of 2023, she is 23 years old.

Her father Aubrey Sekhabi is a playwright and director. Sekhabi explained her desire for acting as one that started from early childhood. From the age of 8, she joined the choir and drama club.

Thereafter, she joined Steele models when she was 11 years old. Moreover, when she was 14 she made her first two film debuts.

While we know a bit about her father, her mother’s information is unknown. Moreover, we don’t know if she has any siblings at all or she’s the only child.

In 2018, she matriculated from Crawford College, Pretoria. So, somewhere in her life, Sekhabi left Mahikeng and moved to Pretoria to finish her high school education.

Thereafter, in 2019, she entered the University of the Witswatersrand and later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in film and television.

How tall is Shalate Sekhabi

Well, a lot of sources place her height at exactly 1.5m. This height was derived from her agency at MLSA. However, this height may not be not quite accurate.

Shalate Sekhabi started acting at the age of 14 and modeling around the age of 11. So, her height was measured around these times.

And, girls keep growing until the age of 16, which means, the height you see on MLSA is off by few centimeters. Perhaps 4cm or so.

So, we did some independent calculations and we can place her height at around 1.56 or 1.57cm. However, we await verification on our answer. But can sure this is more accurate compared to the height that was most likely taken when she was 14.

The acting and modeling career of Shalate Sekhabi

At the age of 8 years, she joined the school choir and drama club. Then, Sekhabi joined Steele Models when she was eleven years old.

At the age of 14, she made film debut with two short films: A Cup of Sugar directed by Xolile Tshabalala and Making a Killing directed by Justine Head.

In January 2020, she made her television debut with the 1Magic soap opera The River, where she made the recurring role of “Millicent” in the season three of the soapie.

After the success of the soapie, she was invited to play the lead role “Shoki” in the e.tv soap opera House of Zwide in the same year. Later in January 2021, the series replaced the long-running soap opera Rhythm City.

Her music career

While you may only know her as an actress and model. Shalate is also a singer-songwriter and has written and produced two songs thus far.

The first was in 2020 named Lerato and the second which was released last year was named Trust. Shalate can be considered an R&B singer and sometimes writes her music in Setswana. Which is her mother tongue.

The actress has an active presence on social media, with Instagram being her favourite social media platform. Her account, @shalatesekhabi, has more than 290 thousand followers.

She is also on Twitter and has garnered over 12.7 thousand followers (29 August 2022). However, do note that Shalate Sekhabi has no known Facebook account. All Facebook accounts in her name are frauds.
